Oh go on then ........... let's have another one!

Since August I have had it in my mind to do the 2012 Bike Rally with Edson and the boys and with Salva (Maguis brother) & Mark T if I can persuade them but with recent career upsets, I didn't get round to register. Plus I didn't really want to think about the price of the plane tickets so all in all I did bugger all about it until a couple of things happened .....

.... Edson & i were invited by Rob and Mike to go and see Larry Kramers play "The Normal Heart" which chronicles Larry's frustration during the 80's when Aids first appeared in the gay community in New York. All the characters are real people who lived and died through those terrible times. The play is staggeringly moving and I had to fight not to sob in the second half.  The Normal Heart Review. Afterwards we all sat quietly contemplating the play and the fact we had just had a glimpse into the emotions of the early 80's. This play, wherever it is put on, is one of the National Theatres top 100 plays of the last century and is a must see for everyone.

..... I saw the bargain of a lifetime. One of the other riders was offering a stunning $3000 carbon fiber bike in return for a good home, a promise not to put straight on E-bay and a donation of $300 : first come first served to a registered rider.

I almost wet my knickers running round like a straight girl in a shoe shop and after a very close run we became the proud owner of a new bike - thank you so much Gary.

So .... because we had a reminder of what it is that we are riding for and fortune smiled on us it's almost official : we are doing the 2012 Friends for Life Bike Rally.

Me - David - who did last years rally. Edson - who was (video) crew last year will ride on the new bike (hopefully without the 70's porno shorts) and my two sons Richard and Adam.

They are aged 17 and 15 and will ride for the first time. So we need to get 2 more decent bikes which I suspect we will get from Spain. It's too much to hope that we can get another cracking bargain. The boys Christmas present from the grandparents will be shoes helmets and shorts and I am hoping Salva will help them find bicycles and train them up ( Salva's cycling experience ). Once we get final confirmation from the commitee on Adam being allowed to ride the flights can be booked.

Fundraising has started very early with Suzan (its always worth keeping in with your old boss) getting us going on our epic struggle to get our minimum of $8800. Although I raised over $7000 last year I won't be working with a large number of my bigger donors and the kids are hardly likely raise $2200 at school so this is going to be a tough year so please be generous if you can. Donate here

Well that's it for now .... so nice to be back!

David, Edson, Richard and Adam.
